How to Write Effective Website Content
Visitors scan before they read. Write so that they find what they need quickly.

Visitors arrive with a question. Effective website content answers it quickly and shows the next step.
Say what you do on the first screen
A new visitor should understand what you offer and who it is for within a few seconds. Lead with a clear headline and one supporting sentence.
Write for scanning
Use short paragraphs, informative headings and lists. Put the most important information first on each page.
Speak about the visitor’s needs
Describe how your service helps the reader, not only the features of the service. Use “you” more than “we”.
One page, one purpose
Give every page a single main job, and a single, clear call to action such as requesting a quote or making contact.
Keep claims honest
Statements about experience, results or clients should be true and provable. Leave out what you cannot support.
Think about search, gently
Use the words your customers use, in headings and opening lines. Write naturally; repeating keywords makes content worse, not better.
Treat languages as equals
If your site is bilingual, write each version for its own readers and keep the facts identical. Check that navigation, forms and messages are also translated.
Keep it up to date
Review pages regularly. Outdated information damages trust faster than a plain page ever will.
